SOIL PROPERTIES, PRODUCTIVITY AND ENVIRONMENT
Director: Dr. Juan A. Galantini

Magister in Agricultural Sciences (UNS)
Ph.D. in Agricultural Chemistry (UdSB, Italy)
The main objective of this group is to evaluate the impact of different farming practices (crop rotation, fertilization, tilling, etc.) on soil chemical, physical and biological properties in an attempt to quantify changes and tendencies as well as to detect the most sensitive properties that could be indicative of soil quality or fertility.
We are also centered on the study of the dynamics and quality of different soil organic fractions and their contribution to soil environment by improving nutrient physical properties, increasing their biological activity and improving nutrient availability for crops. We are also committed to evaluating, among others: the factors that may modify carbon storage in soil as a result of their impact on global warming, those that may modify nitrogen dynamics as a consequence of their impact on layer or gaseous emission contamination, and those that may modify phosphorus dynamics as a result of their impact on crop growth and water-use efficiency.
All in all, our studies aim to evaluate different productive alternatives in terms of their productivity and efficiency in the use of resources within the framework of friendly environmental practices.
