Our group works on plant responses to disturbances, namely fire, drought stress and defoliation, in ecosystems from the southwestern region of Buenos Aires province and the Monte Austral Neuquino in the southern sector of Neuquén province, Argentina.

Our main purpose is to determine alternatives for the management of renewable natural resources in these ecosystems to secure their sustainable use.


Lines of Research

In the Chacra Experimental Patagones, Carmen de Patagones, Buenos Aires province:
  • Shrub effects on microbial communities in the south west of Buenos Aires province. This project is carried out by Dr. Mariela Lis Ambrosino, (PI: Carlos A. Busso, Co-PI: Marta N. Cabello).
  • Relationship between shrubbing and desertification in areas destined for sheep production in the south west of Buenos Aires province. This project is carried out by Dr. Yanina Alejandra Torres (PI: Carlos A. Busso) 
  • Fire and defoliation affect the structure of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi communities associated to native perennial grasses from the central region of Argentina. This project is carried out by Dr. Leticia S. Ithurrart.
  • Research on honeybee microbiology: Agronomical Applications. This project is carried out by Dr. Leticia Fernández.
In the Chacra Experimental de Patagones and Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias of the Universidad Nacional de La Plata (UNLP):
  • Analysis of variability in characters associated to implantation and forage and seed yield in natural populations of Pappophorum vaginatum. This project is carried out by Lic. Lisandro Entío.
In the Monte Austral Neuquino:
  • Significance of seed banking and sowing of pretreated Fabaceae seeds in the ecological rehabilitation of degraded zones in Monte Austral. This project is carried out by Lic. Jorge Ariel Hernandez.
