Lines of Research
Study of micromycetes associated to wild plants and soils from extreme natural environments. The aims of this line of research are: to identify micromycetes associated with native plant species, to describe possible new species by means of morphological and molecular techniques, to estimate alpha and beta diversity of soil fungal communities in selected environments using traditional and molecular tools, and to identify the species that produce active secondary metabolites by small scale cultivation.
Study of wild plant diseases. The purpose of this line of research is to study fungal pathogens that affect endemic, rare and iconic plants in order to generate information that could help protect them while in the case of species that are considered to be weeds, to use fungal disease-producing agents for their biological control. In addition to contributing to the knowledge of the diversity of plant pathogens associated with wild plants in Argentina, further aims of this line of research are: to investigate the effect of diseases on host fitness and to study plant-host-pathogen-hyperparasite tri-trophic interactions as well as to identify the potential inoculum reservoirs and sources of resistance to diseases of cultivated species.
